2012 Keynote Double-Header!!
We are honoured and excited to announce:

Barbara Coloroso,
Cyber Bullying: The Bully, the Bullied and the Bystander: Breaking the Cycle of Violence in the Net Neighborhood.
Bullies are using high tech tools to threaten, stalk, ridicule, humiliate, taunt, and spread rumors about their targets. The characteristics of bullying—imbalance of power, the intent to harm, the threat of further aggression, and the creation of terror—are magnified with the user of electronic technologies.
Faceless and nameless electronic transmissions make it easy for bullies to torment their targets anywhere and at anytime, with apparent anonymity, distributing of irretrievable messages worldwide. Even though most cyberbullying occurs outside of school, it negatively impacts students and the school environment. It has already led to violence—including murder and bullicide—in schools throughout the world.
Barbara’s Cyberbullying Keynote includes:
• Cyberbullying: What it is and what it isn’t
• Ways and Means of cyberbullying
• Stop, Copy, Block and Tell: helping kids protect themselves
• Decoding the code
• The consequences of cyberbullying on the three characters in this tragedy
• Out of sight—not out of mind: the impact on the school and community
environment
• The legal, social, and psychological ramifications of cyberbullying
• Media: the good, the bad, the ugly, and the indifferent

Reading:
The Ultimate Cultural Challenge
Reading is a huge challenge for many of our youth today, regardless of culture or background. Obstacles of language barriers, cultural differences, and financial stability, are often recognized as contributing to a lack of educational success. However for some, unintended distractions such as travel, electronics, sports and activities may also be preventing our children from learning, and loving, to read.
David Bouchard knows that Aboriginal people are the fastest growing segment of Canadian society and have the highest school dropout and suicide rate in North America. Today, they are more "at risk" than any other group in Canada. In Edmonton and surrounding areas, we may face the identical challenge in coming years for our new immigrant, and English as a second language, speaking students. What do we need to do, starting today, to ensure a literate state for all of our children? A teacher and school administrator for twenty seven years, David has come to understand that the ultimate challenge for all of our children is to succeed in a system where reading is a pre-requisite. He understands the enormity of the problem, believes he knows what has to be done, and will share those insights!
