- The first Literacy & Learning Day conference took place in 2003. This is a parent-driven and organized initiative unique to Alberta.
- Expanding on a similar event offered by the Peel County School Board, founder of the Literacy and Learning Day concept, parent Dave Colburn initiated the conference with substantial monetary and volunteer support of the Delwood School Council and Delwood Parent Support Association. Dave gathered together a handful of parents who also believed in the value of this idea, and as a team they forged forward into very unfamiliar territory with a “build it and they will come” attitude.
- After 3 very successful years of building, the organizing committee felt there would be value in further securing their stability and credibility through incorporation under the Societies Act of Alberta. On November 30, 2005, the Literacy and Learning Day Society of Edmonton became an officially sanctioned Society. Exciting explorations in the area of Board Development, and vision setting ensure that the Literacy and Learning Day Society of Edmonton will be growing, evolving and continuing to provide this unique event for many years to come.
- In April of 2012, the Literacy and Learning Day Society of Edmonton received their Canada Revenue Agency Charitable Status.
